Alec D. Stouffer

Construction Management Option

Alec is currently a full time student in his 5th year of Architectural Engineering at Penn State University with a focus in Construction Management. He is working towards a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering (B AE) and is expected to graduate at the end of Spring 2017.

Alec's interest in construction began during his high school tenure, when he was introduced to a program called ACE (Architecture, Construction and Engineering), a program that offered the ability for students to be a part of a team that went through each aspect of constructing a building. After two years in the program, he received a scholarship and elected to continue this career choice into college.

His work experience includes a variety of areas within the construction field, and is excited to learn what this booming industry has to offer. In the summer of 2012, his work began as a project management intern for Classic Communities, a residential construction firm located in the central Pennsylvania area. The next summer, he worked as a project management intern for Cost Company, a masonry company out of Pittsburgh that was working on a project at Penn State University. He became ABAA (Air Barrier Association of America) certified, and expanded his knowledge of the elements involved in the facade system.

His intern experience concluded as an estimator and preconstruction manager with Benchmark Construction, a commercial construction company located in Lancaster, PA. He developed scopes of work, put together summary and detailed estimates of each division within construction, communicated with vendors and subcontractors, and learned that communication is one of the most important aspects within the industry. He wishes to continue to expand his knowledge by finding a home upon graduation in 2017.

Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Alec Stouffer. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
